CPAWS - Southern Alberta

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is Canada’s only charity dedicated to the protection of public land, freshwater and ocean with a strong national and regional presence across the country. Working in a way that respects the sovereignty and leadership of Indigenous nations, we are focused on conserving nature to respond to the dual crises of accelerated biodiversity loss and climate change. The Southern Alberta chapter has been actively campaigning for protection from coal mining in the Alberta Rockies.

Cows and Fish

Cows and Fish started out as a collaboration between ranchers and fisheries biologists looking to reduce conflict between cattle and native fish. Nowadays they work on stream restorations, public outreach, and ecosystem monitoring throughout the province, including in the Rocky Mountains.

Alberta Native Trout Collaborative

The Alberta Native Trout Collaborative is a collaboration between a number of different groups interested in preserving Alberta’s native trout. Check out their website for more information on native trout, or see their blog for updates on different native trout projects in the Rockies.

Crowsnest Conservation Society

Crowsnest Conservation Society is a registered charitable organization that undertakes and supports initiatives promoting environmental stewardship, we a special focus on the Crowsnest Pass area of southwestern Alberta. Learn more about their initiatives and how to get involved on their website.

Alberta Wilderness Association

Alberta Wilderness Association is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta (since 1965), seeking a network of representative protected areas.  AWA has a proven history of being an effective, credible, and independent advocate for wildlands, wildwater, and wildlife.
